Renesas, Nokia to Collaborate

According to a recent Nikkei report, Japanese Renesas has won a chip supply deal from Nokia, and the two companies will collaborate on developing platform software for mobile phones. Nokia and Renesas will work on the compatibility between Nokia's S60 platform software and Renesas's SH-Mobile system chips. Boosted by the deal, Renesas plans to raise the output of SH-Mobile chips from 20 million units in fiscal 2006 to 50 million units in fiscal 2008. This deal also marks Nokia's first collaboration with a Japanese chip supplier.
